Gearing Up for Our First Build
Hey everyone,
I apologize for the radio silence on a blog whose first post was admittedly meager. I am new to blogging and am trying to tell as much of the unfolding adventure of WorldHaus as I can in between bursts of very quick action.
Things are really starting to move for us in India. I just returned from a one month trip spent getting all of the materials, labor, and plans ready for our first model home. Construction begins in 3 weeks. Everyone (including me) is very excited. After more than a year of drawings, customer interviews, raising capital, and building a team, we are finally ready to build something.
We have picked out a site in Chennai (formerly Madras) down near the southern tip of India. It is a hot and wet place and we will be building during the tail end of the monsoon, a great time to test out our all-weather house and building technique! Most importantly, I am really excited to have a team now. I have an amazing team of Indian and American architects, laborers, construction managers, and advisors. I have also started building the core of a great Indian management team. It’s really inspiring to have people sacrifice cushy and better paying jobs because they believe in your cause and what you are trying to accomplish.
We will be done with our first house in mid-December and will be capturing it on video. I will have lots of media to share with you then. We will be building 2-3 houses on our site, testing different layouts and technologies. We’re already looking at pilot projects with a number of partners in early Spring. I will keep you all posted on our progress.
Thanks to everyone for your continued support. It is a big boost to know I have so many backers and people who believe in me and in WorldHaus. Keep it coming!
